What better way to teach ya ol' Gal back at home how to drive a John Deere than from the comfort of your Haystack, That's Right your gonna need "Tractor Simulator" I ain't messing with Ya' this is one of the finest games to grace my trusty Pc, My Crop Yield has gone through the roof, Yours can too.

I give this Game Five Hay Bail's Out of Five.

Up to Date With Neil's Diary....

It Snowed pretty heavily over night and my cat Keith is refusing to leave the house.  I'm quite worried because I've been feeding him leftover curry all week and he won't use the litter tray.

I saw Barry today (I'm Still pretty mad at him for stockpiling all the Custard Creams.) He says he's got a Job reviewing old video games, which is funny because he can't even spell.

I'll Have to go because Keith is Drinking my Gin.

I went to my local shop today because I ran out of Custard Creams,  I was out of Luck because
Barry from down the road had only been in and bought the last pack.

I'll just have to stick them on my list to Father Crimbo along with some catfood.
I'll be crossing Barry of my Xmas card list unless he share's his Biscuits.

In 94 the guys and girls at DMA went all festive, With their Rodent Suicide sim "Lemmings"

Your task in the game is to prevent as many of these little blighters from committing "Hari Kari".
Even the thought of eggnog couldn't cheer them up.

Neil's Diary

I've just got back from a job interview for the new Ponkéman game Knife and Spoon, I think it went well but the guy who interviewed me Pinkychoo was a bit rude. He said Neil was a rubbish name for a Ponkéman so I would have to change it too something else. anyway I'll think on it while I dunk my jammy dodger in to my  tea.

Indecisive Game Girl

Game Girls
What are we playing tonight?

Still miles ahead of the pack

5 Underrated Classic Racing Games

1. Excite Bike 64

No other game even to this Day captures the feel of riding a vehicle with two wheels as well as this, oh and it's seriously bloody fun.

Check out the trailer below

2. Wave Race 64

Again similar to Excite Bike The Handling just feels right, no one has done physics in racers quite as well since .

Check out the trailer below

3. 1080 Snowboarding

A bit of a theme is developing here, you guessed it great handling and physics and a purity of gameplay that has  been hard top in its genre.

Check out the trailer below

4. Diddy Kong Racing

Any game that could go head to head with mariokart64 And compete is pretty special, That Game is Diddy Kong 64

Check out the trailer below

5. Beetle Adventure Racing

Personally think this is one of the best games EA ever produced (don't hate me sport fan's) but this doesn't take itself too seriously and most importantly it's really good fun.

Shoot The Breeze

2009
TVGM Blog Classic Games
Flower
Platform: PS3 PS4
Developer: Thatgamecompany

One of the most beautiful experiences I've had playing Video Games came in 2009 when I discovered a little Indie developer called "Thatgamecompany" who had pqroduced a game for the "Playstation Network" called "Flow" Where you controlled plankton and ate your way to evolution. (yes it sounds weird and it is weird)
But its not this game I'm referring too, No I'm talking about their second release "Flower".

It's Difficult too put into words because it's so unlike anything else on any platform.
You essentially control the wind which carries A petal across the open fields waking up the flora you come into Contact with. In doing so you gain more petals. Right! so It doesn't sound like one Of the best video games ever made but I can assure you it's magical, with probably the best use of motion control's to this day and it's not even a Wii game.
Admittedly The whole thing can be completed in a couple of hours but I can't recommend This highly enough. If any game should count as High Art it's "Flower"
oh and the Soundtrack is brilliant too.
Track it down on the psn store.

Blog Teething issues

I don't know if we really need another video game blog but Damn it I'm making one anyway.
Hopefully you'll get on board and we'll have a few laughs along the way.
I got off to a bad start so I had to delete a few posts but hopefully I'm up and running now.

I'll mostly be covering retro games but will also cover modern and even future games where I see fit so I hope you enjoy, cheers.

Feeling Super Sonic

Sega Girls

Sonic pleasing the ladies.

Fzero Please, Thank you.

2017
Nintendo Switch Wish list
1. Fzero Switch

We've seen the "Wii" come and go.. now we are in the death throes of the "WiiU" and still no sign of "Captain falcon" and pal's.

Why are "Nintendo" ignoring some of it's top franchise's in favour of milking "Mario" for every last coin they can squeeze out of his Dexy midnight runner dungarees?

Don't get me wrong I want a new 3d Mario game as much as the next "Nintendo" fanboy, but we don't need endless Party and Sports games featuring a middle aged fat Italian plumber. come to think of it when did he actually last get some plumbing done? his pipes are probably all blocked up.
Anyway back on track.. F-zero switch, "Nintendo" please make it happen.

You Know I wanna Breakout!

TVGM BLOG Gaming Legends
Platform: Various
Developer: Atari
Genre: Action

For my first legendary game it would have been so easy to pick pong, however most of the consoles I've mentioned up to this point have been dedicated to the simplicity of that concept so I don't feel I need to make more posts on the subject as we all know it's great. Here however i've gone for a game that evolved the concept of pong in to something similar but far more compelling...Breakout.
Taking the Paddle concept from pong,.. adding a wall that you must clear without loosing your balls (oi oy!) was a simple but Genius idea by game Legend, Nolan Bushnell.

For those who want a brain melting modern day take on this theme try the brilliant  game Shatter on the psn store which I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys these types of games. it also has a phenomenal Soundtrack.

Nintendo video game Roots.

1976
Nintendo TV Game Series

Pong fever had gripped Japan just as much as the west and this series of bat and ball console's deserves a mention for one good reason, it was developed by non other than Nintendo, yes the guys who gave us the futuristic virtual boy (amongst other things) were busy bringing games to the masses and it was non other Than Shigeru Miyamoto who had a hand in the design of the consoles, he did quite well for himself from then on.

Atari Change The Game.

1977
Atari 2600
A game changer in more ways than one.

Many Pong Clones later and Atari entered the market with what most resembles the type of cartridge based consoles we all know and love today. The initial launch line up of nine games would grow to 260, among those are many classic titles including you guessed it Pong, but the atari 2600 was so much more than a pong clone with its iconic joystick and stylish looks it set the standard that others would have to match.

Introducing Processor Power

1976
Fairchild Channel F
When bit's were Bytes.

The first console to sport a processor with a whopping 64 bytes of ram, yes 64 bytes not bits (sorry but you will have to get used to sarcasm as I'm from the north of England.)  that sentence probably took more than 64 bytes. Anyway the Fairchild Channel F was originally launched as the video entertainment system (VES) until Atari released the VCS a year later.
The System had 27 official game cartridge releases but there were man more unofficially produced, one of the invention's that came from this system was the ability to Pause your game with a hold switch, so no more stained bladders going forward.

A selection of the 27 numbered official releases.

1972 A Video Game Odyssey

1972
Magnavox Odyssey

The Magnavox Odyssey was the first ever home game console. Created by a team led by Ralph Baer ("The Father of gaming") it played variations on the"Paddle Ball" theme we today lovingly know as "Pong"

Selling for around $100 The Odyssey had no processor, No memory, it was mainly made of Transistors and capacitors. It had 6 cards that changed the game settings and featured Plastic screen overlays to simulate colours.

1975
Magnavox Odyssey 100 & 200 Series

In 1975 The 100 and 200 series refined the pong Idea further still with variation on the paddle ball theme.

The birth of a new Gaming Blog

1967-69
The Black Box

Welcome to My blog The Video Game Museum where I hope over the coming months and years to take us on a journey of discovery through gamings rich history.
I've been playing games since the days of the zx spectrum (Manic miner anyone?) and grew up on a diet of Nintendo and Sega (Sonic and Mario are both OK by me, I won't be taking sides) but for now we'll be going right back to the start, So set the control's for the heart of 1967 where having built various prototype's between 67 and 69 it was Ralph Baers Brown Box that was the first ever multiplayer video game machine. Though never commercially available it paved the way for the huge home gaming industry we enjoy today. The prototype Brown Box was also the home of the first built in ping pong game.
Ralph's Team went on to make the Magnavox series of home games consoles.
